This 18th century pub serves great real ales and traditional pub food, but its huge draw is its riverside location. It is a lovely Sussex country pub and restaurant set on the west bank of the River Ouse, one of the most unspoilt parts of rural Sussex and just four miles upstream from Lewes. There is plenty of outside seating next to the winding River Ouse as well as two bars, a restaurant and a small conservatory.
As well as a being in a great location and a good distance away to make a decent walk, the Anchor Inn also hires out boats. What could be more fun than hiring a rowing boat out from a pub by the river and whiling away an hour or two paddling sluggishly upstream. Followed by a lazy drift back to the jetty.
The Anchor Inn rowing is hugely popular on sunny days and attracts lots of families and friends keen to unwind in the non tidal reaches of the River Ouse. En route you’ll see dragonflies, moorhens, fish and possibly even an otter if you’re lucky. The pub does occasionally hold events, so check out their facebook page for updates.
