Things to do

Middle Farm

Middle Farm is nine miles from The Secret Campsite Lewes. The farm has a farm shop, butchery, deli, open farm, tea room, gift shop and plant sales. Also, the largest collection of cider and perry in the UK. What more could you ask for?

The farm is nestled on the foot of the Firle Beacon on the South Downs in Sussex. They have something for everyone in the family to enjoy and with six generations of farming, they do it all fairly well.

The open farm is home to some of the friendliest farm animals around. With timed events throughout the day, including watching their prize winning Jersey cows milked in the afternoons. Children will have a ball meeting the playful rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, pigs and tiny harvest mice. They’ll also be able to spot llamas, goats and sheep. There is a picnic area available as well as a nature trail around the farm and two outdoor playgrounds for the little ones. One of our favourite things for the kids is the hay play barn.

Middle Farm is suitable for a visit on any day, with  a log fire on the colder days and sunny courtyard for the summer. It’s a lovely place for lunch and we would highly recommend the delicious Sussex cream tea. As well as letting the kids run free and experience the farm animals you could pick up your dinner for the campfire whilst there.

The farm shops boasts more Sussex produce than any other retailer anywhere and it certainly looks like it when you’re in the shop. They also stock 80 cheeses(25 of which are from Sussex). As well as home produced grass-fed beef and additive free meat and poultry, you’re set for a great campfire meal. Like bread? They’ve got you covered there too! Pastries, cakes, bread, pies, crumbles and even ready meals await you.

Grab yourself a steak and baguette for a delicious campfire steak sandwich tea.

Not forgetting the adults amongst you, they have the largest collection of independent ciders we’ve ever seen. You can buy small quantities of any from this enormous collection. They also stock beers from 25 local breweries, wines from 25 local vineyards and a unique collection of more than 100 meads in bottle and on draught. For the little ones, 45 different flavours of apple juice from local orchards. They even press their own every day for you to take home unpasteurised, like their milk.
