The Lavender Line Railway

The Lavender Line is a small preserved railway in Isfield, six miles from The Secret Campsite Lewes. It has a short stretch of track enabling visitors to experience steam travel first hand.

The railway line was first opened in October 1958 and originally integrated into the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway. Today, the railway is just one mile long and is run by the Lavender Line Preservation Society. Since its restoration in the 1980’s, the railway has remained a popular local attraction and has even been used as a location for film and television shoots.

The Lavender Line is open every Sunday throughout the year and all Bank Holidays except Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. If you’re camping with us, it’s also worth checking out their special events throughout the year including Easter Bunny hunts and Gala events. You can even host birthday tea parties on a railway carriage. Ever wanted to drive a steam train? You can with a course at The Lavender Line.

The journey on the The Lavender Line is a two mile round trip through the beautiful Sussex countryside between the small village of Isfield and the parish of Little Horsted. It takes around 15 minutes and is a great trip out for the whole family.

If you’re peckish from your journey from the campsite to the steam train, they have Cinders cafe. Delicious breakfast and famous cakes abounds. A lovely choice for the family if you’re visiting Sussex and enjoy a bit of history mixed with stunning countryside.

If you’re looking for nearby camping or glamping, The Secret Campsite Lewes is just six miles away. Wild Boar Wood, our glamping only site with bell tents in a beautiful semi ancient woodland is nine miles away.
