Bluebell Railway

The Bluebell Railway is in Uckfield, just 6 miles from The Secret Campsite Lewes.

The Railway is an 11 mile heritage steam train line which runs between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead, through the Sussex countryside. If you feel like taking a ride on the steam train, this takes around 40 minutes. There is a stop in the middle at Horsted Keynes(and runs right past our glamping site Wild Boar Wood), perfectly timed for a picnic on a sunny day.

There is a real sense of going back in time with a trip on the railway. The stations are in the old style and the conductors are in traditional uniforms. It’s an immersive experience as you chug through the Sussex countryside with people waving as you pass. Kids particularly love it!

If your interest in trains goes any further they also have a stunning collection of vintage carriages in the main museum. You can learn the history of the railway line as well as get involved with interactive games and models. They also hold events throughout the year, like Fish and Chips and Rail Ale, or murder mystery evenings.

There are refreshments available at or near to all the stations. Some lovely local country pubs too!

The Bluebell Railway is a lovely day out if you’re camping with us.
